The Carmelit is an underground funicular railway in Haifa,Israel. It originally opened in 1959 but in 1986 after showing signs of aging. It reopened in September 1992 after extensive renovations. 

The Carmelit is the smalest railway in the world and the only subway in Israel. These tokens, "hadars", were used when boarding the train in the middle of the line. They read:

1 - above: the Hebrew letters represent "Department/ of Haifa's/ Transportation"; below: "Haifa"

2 - In Hebrew "Hadar"

These tokens are from the 1960s. They are approx 15mm in diameter. They are polished and attached to gold cufflink posts.
